Usage fees

* The contract of 400,000 yen for commercial use stipulated in the current contract system was limited to one product, but the contract system for a unit of one product will be abolished on 30th September 2021, and will be changed from 1st October to the below one.

* With respect to contracts concluded by September 30, 2021, the content of the contract entered into at the time when the agreement was concluded continues to be valid, and it is not the case that the content of the new contract applies.

[Use of corpus for non-commercial purposes]

Academic: Use of corpus for academic research purposes as a member of an educational research institution.

You must belong to an educational research institution* to apply for the use of the corpus for academic purposes.

*Educational research institutions: technical colleges, universities (including junior colleges), incorporated administrative agencies, or research institutions equivalent thereto.

Please submit a copy of your student ID, employee ID card, or original enrolment certificate verifying your association with the institution at the time of application. The contract shall be terminated when you are no longer part of the institution.

• (Student): 25,000 yen (tax not included)
• (Non-students): 50,000 yen (tax not included)

General: Use of corpus in the absence of affiliation to an educational research institution

• 200,000 yen (tax not included)

[For commercial purposes]

For the purpose of commercialising the corpus statistics

• Commercial use (term of contract: 2-years; number of users: 10 or fewer): 400,000 yen (tax not included)

*A user list must be submitted. Please contact us in case of any change in the user list.

• Commercial use (term of contract: not specified, number of users: up to 10): 4 million yen (tax not included)

A user list must be submitted. Please contact us in case of any change in the user list.

• Commercial use (term of contract: not specified, number of users: no limit): 8 million yen (tax not included)

Although there is no limit to the number of users, the corpus administrator reserves the right to manage their use .

Usage fees before 30th Sep. 2021 (application should be submitted before 10th Aug. 2021(JST))

Academic use: The usage fee when you plan to use the corpus only for research (see also Note 1)

The usage fee for research institutions and individual researchers: 50,000 yen (excluding tax) (see also Note 2)

Research institutions include university laboratories, national/public research labs, libraries, or the research groups of other equivalent institutions.

General use: The usage fee for other research that will not be done for commercial purposes is as follows

Usage fee: 200,000 yen (excluding tax)

Commericial use: Refers to use for profit/commercial purposes other than the above. Also, if applicable, the use of results obtained via academic use for commercial purposes.

Usage fee: 400,000 yen (excluding tax) (see also Note 3): limitation to one product

Notes

Note 1: Applications from overseas will be treated the same as above.

Note 2: In the case of applications from research institutions/laboratories, it is assumed that the application will be filed under the name of the representative of the organization.
There is no issue with multiple researchers from the same organization using the CSJ to carry out private or joint research.
It is allowable to conduct joint research with researchers outside of the organization that applied for the CSJ, but when results are announced the first author must be a member of the applying organization.
Use of CSJ in joint research is not allowed in the cases of student or infividual applicants.

Note 3:
Even if you have entered into a contract for academic use, if the possibility of commercialization occurs, you must enter a new agreement for commercial use.As a result, an additional fee for commercial use will be incured.

For example: if after applying for general use, the possibility of commercialization occured.
General use fee of 200,000 yen + commercial use fee of 400,000-8,000,000 yen (excluding tax).
